🧠 Background
Samuel Chamberlain (1895–1975) was one of the most respected American architectural photographers and illustrators of the mid-20th century. His Ever New England series — including New England Album and Vermont in Pictures — beautifully documented colonial homes, seaports, and villages across New England during WWII.
Hastings House was part of the “American Folkways” and “American Scene” movements, publishing nostalgic, regional books that celebrated American identity at a time when the country needed it most.
📚 Edition Notes
The 1944–45 printings are true early editions, not modern reprints.
The linen-textured green cloth cover with gilt script title is the original design.
